Food safety question.
Jul. 26th, 2005 01:05 pmOkay, for those of you who have crockpots, I have a question...
Our power went out this morning (yes, on the hottest f&*%$ day of the year so far... this 105 heat index can kiss my shiny metal...). Zip put a pot roast in the crockpot on low heat before he left for work. The power had been out for about 20-30 minutes before I thought about it, and then I remembered that we have an emergency power supply -- so I plugged the crockpot into that for the remaining 45 minutes that the power was out. (When I plugged it in to the emerg. power, the outside of the crockpot was still warm, not hot, but the glass lid was still pretty hot.)
So really, the crockpot was only off for about a half hour, and I never removed the lid. Do you think the roast is still okay? Or should we order pizza tonight just to be safe?
Thanks.
[ETA: I didn't think about the 2-40-140 rule. Since it was below 140 for less than an hour, if at all, it's probably fine.]
