There are times I hate pregnancy.
It's bad enough that I got all weepy today in the bookstore looking at all the pregnancy and childbirth books... but at some point, I decided I HAD to have a BLT. It's really strange, because bacon has been one of my major aversions since I got pregnant. Just the thought of bacon sizzling in a pan makes me want to barf.
Of course, it was 3:00 in the afternoon, which meant that all the normal places to go (like delis) were already closed. Where the hell does someone go for a BLT at 3 pm?
So I called my husband to ask his advice. He couldn't think of anything either.
Mind you, I'm starving. I'm so hungry it hurts, and the thought of food makes me feel like I'm going to hurl... except for a BLT. That sounds positively heavenly.
And then, like the angel she is, the intern who sits at the desk across from Jay suggested I try Sonic.
It never would have occurred to me. We have one right down the road!
So off I drove. And I got a BLT for only $2.09. It was on thick toasty Texas toast with just the right amount of mayo. The lettuce was crisp, the tomato juicy (without soaking the toast and making it soggy), and the bacon was crispy and crunchy and not at all underdone and rubbery like I've come to expect.
I don't think anything has ever, EVER tasted that good to me, in my whole life.
I called Jay back and told him to tell Liz (the intern) that I wanted to hug her, as this was the best BLT I'd had in YEARS, and she'd just made a pregnant lady very, very happy. I was positively giddy... over a SANDWICH.
Good grief... I'm jonesing for another one now just thinking about it.
It's really strange, the things you appreciate when you're pregnant that you totally take for granted when you're not. Like being able to eat something without wanting to throw up. I can't tell you how good that BLT felt going down, and that's the first time in weeks that I've been able to eat without feeling queasy.
