I took some photos today outside my house... I felt the first stirrings of autumn in this morning's rain, yet summer's grip remains.

An empty cicada husk hanging upside down from the branch of a maple tree

Hostas in bloom

An unopened rosebud. I can't wait to see how it looks tomorrow.

Same photo, but with auto color-correction by PSE. Not true to life, but I like the effect.

Lovely! This was a digital camera? Nice quality.

I love nature/scenic pictures. Sometimes it's just strikingly beautiful, humbling and peaceful all at the same time.

Thanks! Yes, it's a digital -- Canon EOS 20D with a Tamron 28-200 lens. I tell ya, this camera was the best investment we ever made -- it's probably paid for itself already just in film and processing that we didn't waste on the umpteen million pics we've taken of our kid that didn't turn out. :P

Canon EOS 20D with a Tamron 28-200 lens
I am drooling at work over this because I want the Canon EOS digital camera! I have a Canon Rebel SLR also with a Tamron 28-200 lens (not kidding!) and that takes amazing pictures. I bought it when I went to Ireland and man are those pictures amazing quality. *sigh* I'm gonna put it on my Xmas list. Yeah, I'm a dreamer :)

There's a couple of paths to go if you wanna go digital. One, obviously, is Canon, since you already have at least one lens for it. If you have to get new, consider the Digital Rebel XT, the EOS 20d or the 30d.

However, if you can handle the idea of a used camera, you may find it much more affordable to pick up a used 20d, 10d or original Digital Rebel. The 20d is 8 megapixels, while the 10d and original DR are a bit over 6 -- realisticly, anything over about 5 is more than the average photographer needs.

Any of your old lenses will fit, but will be multiplied by 1.6 due to the smaller sensor in the camera. The result? That 28-200 just became a 38ish-320. Great if you shoot telephoto, but if you like wide angle photos, you'll need to get one of the 18-55mm lenses that Canon sells dirt cheap.

However, one camera that's gotten rave reviews and gone under the radar is the Olympus Evolt 500. You can get that one with two lenses for under $700 sometimes.

You are so sweet! I'll take a look at those on-line to see which one would be the most sensible choice for me. A friend of mine had the 20d, I believe, and we put my lens on it and he was impressed with it. *When* I do purchase a new digital, I'll probably go with a Canon, but I'm going to take a look at the Evolt 500.
